Karen Millen Wins Copycat Fashion Case

Karen Millen

It is said that imitation is the highest form of flattery, but when the Irish retailer Dunnes stores started selling cheap imitations of Karen Millen designs, the renowned fashion label certainly wasn’t going to take it lying down!

In the legal case which ensued, Dunnes was accused of breaching new EC Community Design Legislation by copying items from Karen Millen’s ranges of fashion wear and lingerie.  If Dunnes were to have won the test case it is thought it would have opened the gates for anyone to copy the designs of fashion retailers without fear of retribution.

Some may believe that the ruling is a sad day for the high street shopper, removing these cheaper items from availability. It must be remembered the work and costs which go into creating the amazing designs at Karen Millen. Cheap copies cannot hope recreate the quality and style which Karen Millen guarantees in each of its garments. For a few extra quid I know I’d choose, the experience of wearing one of Karen Millen’s sensually fitted lingerie outfits is something not to be missed!
