Does anybody know where I can get a one cup bra? I’ve had a mastectomy but don’t want to wear a prosthesis.
I’m happy to cut my old bras up – but surely there’s others who feel like I do. I can’t believe that on this planet where money buys everything (nearly) that some entrepreneur hasn’t thought of this.

Hey Berta… we were interested in this comment, so we put our heads together to see what we could find out for you. Alas there does not seem to be such a thing on the market. I suppose the manufacturers are targeting what they think 80% of women who have had mastectomy surgery might want.

However, there may be something which will eventually come to market. Someone has patented a single cup post-mastectomy bra. We found details here: -

It was filed in 1996 though!

Much of the info we have found on Mastectomy bras from sources such as the UK NHS does seem to be angled towards women finding a bra / swimsuit with a good fit, and altering it to suit their own requirements. Not such handy advice if you’re not a dab hand at the old sewing.

i had a mastectomy with a reconstruction, but my bras dont fit. Where can i get a bra that fits . I live in glasgow

Hi Shona – We’re not aware of any company that sells a bra with a pre-inserted prosthesis. You might be able to alter a bra to comfortably contain a prosthesis if you are handy with a sewing maching or know someone who is.

Hi Carol – I think you perhaps need to go and have a professional bra fitting. It sounds like the reconstruction process may have subtly altered your bra size. If you take some time to try on a big range of sizes and have a bra fitting expert to help, I’m sure you will find something you’ll feel comfortable in again.

Good luck to both of you ladies in finding some underwear options that work for you.

I am looking for a bridal strapless bra with pockets. I have had a mastectomy and my wedding dress is strapless and i can’t find a bra with a pocket that is strapless. Surely some manufacturer must be able to accomodate my need?

  7. Lingerie Gal on September 7th, 2008 9:45 am

Hi Mary, Congratulations on your upcoming wedding.

Strapless mastectomy bras are incredibly hard to find, but we have found a manufacturer who might be able to help.

Also, American Breast Care have a strapless offering, although they do recommend you use it in combination with one of their pocket loc breast forms which minimise the chance of your prosthesis shifting.

Hope this helps, and the best of luck with your big day!

Got something to say?
