How To Care For Latex

Latex clothing is incredibly popular among fetish and BDSM fans. It’s soft, sensual, has a uniquely sexy feel during wear, and comes in a host of different lingerie styles. It’s important to know how to care for latex once you’ve purchased.

It doesn’t come particularly cheap, so it’s worth following the care guide to ensure it stays in great condition. This will ensure you and your latex lingerie will have a long and happy life together.

Our Tips on How To Care For Latex

  • Use warm (not cold, not hot) water which is free from any soaps or detergents. You should avoid using soap products with latex because they contain harmful oils. If you do decide to use one, make sure it’s very mild and unscented. Corn starch can make a good substitute for detergent as it’s gentle.
  • Wash as soon after wearing as you can because any body oils or sweat will be harder to remove the longer it lies there. If you leave it too long the material can be affected.
  • After it’s been washed you can wipe the garment down with a clean towel to stop excess water causing puddles.
  • Once you’ve done this it needs to be put flat out to dry, don’t hang it up, lay it flat somewhere safe.
  • Once it is dry it is recommended you dust it with some talc or latex aftercare product to keep it soft and from going brittle.
  • Pop it away in a drawer ready for its next outing. It’s recommended you pop inside a bag first, to protect it even further.

Latex – What Not To Do

There are a few things you should never attempt with latex, trust me you’ll end up crying into your drink if you do any of the things below.

It’s a Nope From Him – Don’t Do This!

Never:

  • Attempt to iron or tumble dry latex. This might seem tempting, perhaps you’ve left it until the last minute to wash and need it for that evening? Looks like you’ll need a plan B because you can’t rush drying latex, ever.
  • Put it away without a proper cleaning regime. It might not even look that dirty but think back to how hot you were wearing it, that sweat will still be present on the material. Salt and oils can wreck latex material, what a waste that would be!
  • Be tempted to use oily creams – always stick to specific latex products when it comes to lubricants.
  • Leave in direct sunlight or in a damp room or cupboard. Latex is a material that needs lots of love. Leave it abandoned at your own risk.
  • Dry or place near a fire – the results won’t be pretty and you’ll likely see your hopes of a passionate evening go up in smoke!
  • Put your latex on metal because this can really harm latex material. They can cause staining among other things.

Polishing Latex

Latex can be kept in tip-top shiny condition by applying a latex polish to it. Always use one specific to your garment and follow the instructions carefully. These will be silicone-based polishes that won’t harm the material. It’s important to polish with the right equipment to avoid scratching your beloved garment. It’s not essential to polish your latex but it is highly recommended to keep it looking as good as new.

Hopefully this guide will have helped you understand exactly how to care for latex, making sure that your investment in sexy fetish lingerie or clothing will be a good one!
